Bongiovanni, Salvatore A., 87, of Plantation, Florida passed away Thursday, May 24th, 2018. Salvatore Bongiovanni (Sam BonJon) was born in Dunkirk, NY in 1930 and grew up in Rochester, NY. While serving in the Air Force during the Korean War Sam married his wife, Patricia (Reiter) Bongiovanni and was stationed at Hickam AFB in Hawaii. After the war Sam and Patricia returned to Rochester where Sam worked in the mens formal wear business with his brother, Peter. Bon Jon's Tuxedos had seven stores that served Rochester for over twenty years. In 1976 Sam moved his family to South Florida where he continued working in the mens clothing business until he retired. Sam was a lifelong baseball fan and especially loved the New York Yankees. In addition, Sam was an avid golfer and was a member at several clubs throughout his life. After retirement, Sam played golf and worked as a ranger at Jacaranda, Plantation Preserve and Inverrary golf clubs. Salvatore and Patricia were married sixty-one years at the time of Patricia's death in 2013. He is predeceased by his father, Francesco Bongiovanni, mother Anna (Arlotto) Bongiovanni, brother Peter Bongiovanni and sister Carmella Schroeder. He is survived by his sons Michael of Cornelius, NC, Steven of Plantation, FL, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and the many friends and family members who will miss his outgoing personality and sense of humor.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, June 14th, 2018 from 5pm to 7pm at Baird-Case Funeral
Home& Cremation Service, 4701 N. State Road 7, Tamarac, Florida 33319. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 15th, 2018 at 11am at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 200 N. University Dr., Plantation, FL
Interment will be private at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida.
