Tribute

Candice Ruth Bressler, 71, of Lauderhill, FLORIDA passed away on March 31, 2020 in her daughter’s home, under home hospice care.

She leaves behind her son Larry Bressler and his wife Valerie; her daughter Lorena Morel and her husband Ralph; her daughter Julieanne Ludwig and her husband Raymond; grandchildren Amanda Morel, Alicia Morel, Alexis Morel, Michael Morel, Eric Bressler, Olivia Bressler, Nicholas Conklin, Abagail Ludwig, Rachel Ludwig; and Great Grandchild Emiliano Rodriguez.

She was preceded in death by her spouse Lawrence Peter Bressler in 2005, and her son Richard William Bressler in 1994.

Born in New York City on August 7, 1948 to her parents William Charles Schaefer & Ruth Virginia Schaefer (maiden name: Chapelle). She grew up in The Bronx, New York. She also leaves behind three sisters Suellen Mariani, Carole McAteer, and Ginger Dunn.

She was married on June 8, 1968 to her husband Lawrence Bressler, a decorated Vietnam War Veteran.

She was a stay-at-home Mom that raised her four children in New York and North Carolina. As her children got older, she worked for the New York Board of Elections.

In 1995, she and her husband bought a house in Centereach, NY (Long Island).

She was an avid reader, and later in life she would read many of the Harry Potter novels several times. She was a big fan of older, mostly black & white films. Some of her favorites was The Wizard of Oz, and she also enjoyed Laurel & Hardy films.

Some of her favorite times were when she would get together with the entire extended family. House parties, picnics, weddings, etc. Seeing all the cousins, aunts, uncles, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

To all who knew her, she was known as “Candy.” As her niece Tara McCollum would say, she had a silly, funny side to her personality that was befitting of the name. The name “Candy” invokes the feeling of fun and sweetness. She always found the sweeter, sillier sides of life. She had many inside jokes with her sisters, her children, and her many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

She moved to Florida a few years ago to live with her daughter Lorena. Lorena has been her main caregiver during the last few months of her life, and because of Lorena, her last few months have been comfortable and surrounded with love.
